What Do Classes Look Like?

Just like a traditional face-to-face class, an online class is taught by an accredited 教练. In online classes you will have regular lessons each week — the only difference is that they are delivered electronic所有y using the Internet 和 other software tools.

When you take an online class, you log in to an online learning management system 被称为 CANVAS access 和 complete 所有 — or part of – your class lectures, assignments, interactive activities 和 tests to fulfill the course learning objectives. 同样的学习 objectives, content 和 textbooks are used for 所有 PCC classes whether it’s fully online, hybrid 或校园.

这些 days, online learning can be just as or even more engaging than a traditional course, since your 教练s will use the latest technological tools 和 teaching 方法. More 教练s are using multimedia 和 tools that increase social interactions 在课堂上. This makes learning more fun, as people get to know one another 和 support each other in their online course. Think of it as your new class community!

What’s a Learning Management System (LMS)?

Online 和 hybrid classes at PCC use what is 被称为 a Learning Management System (LMS). An LMS is an online platform that you access online. It’s a self-contained system where your 教练s can post their course materials, assignments, 和 announcements. Currently the LMS at PCC is CANVAS.

In an LMS you will probably use a lot of different features in your classes. 这些 are just a few of the most common ones:

Where you can discuss questions about the course materials with your 教练 和 同学们.

Where you can take part in synchronous (live) sessions or discussions with your 教练 或同学.

Where you can check your grades.

When you log into CANVAS, you’ll get a screen that lists 所有 the classes you are enrolled 用它吧. This screen is 被称为 the CANVAS 指示板 包括： 

  1. Global Navigation Menu where you can access your courses 和 calendar.
  2. 侧边栏 where you can see your course feeds.
  3. Global Activity Stream where you can see the recent activity from 所有 your CANVAS courses.

Click on the course you want to enter, 和 you’ll get a 主页 that might be set up either with a Course Activity Stream (recent activity in your course) or a set l和ing page with the 课程菜单 在左边. This menu will have links to everything you need to get started in your 课程: 

  • 教学大纲
  • 模块
  • 公告
  • 额外的工具 (对话, Chat, 成绩, etc.)

Using an LMS is easy. Since everything is contained within the system, 所有 you need is to log in to your account using your LancerID on a computer or mobile device with a supported Operating System 和 Browser. You can also access your class on your iPhone or iPad.
